Mari in tips & tricks

You may recall an earlier post regarding how to homogenize a jar of peanut butter using a hand mixer. Well, my friend tried it. He sent me a photo of the results and a new set of instructions:

  1. Open jar of peanut butter carefully to avoid spilling any oil on hands. If hands are oil-free:
  2. Raise blender over opening of jar.
  3. At this point, check the hand holding the jar once again for any oil residue.
  4. Insert blender blades into unmixed peanut butter.
  5. Don't start the blender yet: first check the hand holding the jar for any oil again. Even a little bit of oil is of concern.
  6. Consider turning on the blender.
  7. Check once again to make sure your jar hand is dry—that is, totally oil-free.
  8. And now quickly check again 3-5 times. If your jar hand is totally oil-free:
  9. Grip firmly; start the blender.

He said he laughed as it was happening. The peanut butter (and oil) covered three walls and the floor. However, his cucumber-carrot-pecan-peanut butter salad was delish. Thanks for your good humor about it, Rives. I will say for next time, read the instructions: "Securely grip..."
