glad press n' seal japanese plastic film

As the title might suggest, Mr. Mari loathes plastic wrap, it's like wrestling a sticky bear, he says. The film once cut free of the roll, needs to be moved to whatever it's going to be wrapping as quickly and deftly as possible. Otherwise, that flat sheet collapses on itself, becoming a mass of plastic that just needs to be chucked. "Argh!", he yells pretty much every night he wraps leftovers. Me, I hate the wastefulness of using a regular sized roll to wrap a tiny dish. Sometimes I just have an itty-bitty dish, with a dollop of something that I want to save for later. "Argh!", I yell.

Enter our solutions: Glad Press n' Seal and two shorter rolls of Japanese film. Glad Press n' Seal seems thicker than most plastic wraps and is textured with little bumps on one side so it releases from the roll easily. Unless you press it together, it rarely sticks to itself so when Mr. Mari's wrapping something, he can move it in the air without worrying that during its flight, it'll become unusable. And leave it to the Japanese to not waste anything, not even plastic wrap. The film is thicker than American film so it's not flimsy - it can be stretched pretty taut without tearing. It makes me so happy not to have half the width of some plastic film crumpled onto a dish.

I just don't understand why there's only one width available for plastic film in America. It's not like there aren't different sized plastic bags. We're Americans, damn it! Why aren't there other size choices? (Hello, Mr. CEO of The Clorox Company or Dow Chemicals - I think there's an opportunity here!)

(Glad Press n' Seal is available at most if not all supermarkets; Japanese plastic film is available at many Japanese grocery stores)
