The Hart + The Hunter

One of the great things about NYC is if you drink (alcohol), it doesn’t matter which sobriety level you’re on when you’re heading home because chances are you’re probably walking, subwaying, or cabbing. Now that we live in a driving town (there's no bottle of wine to share between us and taxis are expensive!), finding places nearby that we can walk to is that much more important.

As part of my research prior to moving here, The Hart + The Hunter sounded like a tasty option; I had no idea that it was going to be a jumping hot spot. Mr. Mari and I went for dinner a couple weeks ago and are super happy it’s within walking distance from home.

Although the lunch menu is abbreviated and definitely less adventurous than the dinner menu, the options are still very satisfying. And! Even though the biscuits aren’t listed on the menu you can still get them - and you should! They are the lightest, most fluffy and pillowy cloud cakes I've ever had. And what I love most about them is the slightly crisp yet crusty outer layer. They are to die for delicious. The “preserved” blackberries that accompany the biscuits are outstanding too. You could make a dessert with just those seven plump sweet berries and call it a day.

Having The Hart + The Hunter nearby is definitely a fortunate accident because I certainly wouldn’t have moved to a neighborhood that had tasty restaurants within walking distance from home, or would I?

Arugula salad with grilled steak, roasted vegetables and topped with salsa verde; shaved Brussels sprout salad with peanuts, apples, cheddar and tossed in a bacon vinaigrette; kale salad with apples, dates, pecans, sheep's milk cheese and tossed in a walnut vinaigrette; arugula and herb salad with pickled shrimp, shaved fennel, sliced radishes, red onion and pickled garlic; the biscuits with preserved blackberries and honey, cinnamon butter)
